Undergraduate Opportunities
The Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Foundation is eager to distribute more than $30,000 in scholarships to undergraduate students each year. Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors and current college students at an Oklahoma college or university with definite plans to continue in the fall, who have an interest in the beef cattle industry.
“The future of agriculture is dependent upon our youth growing into the industry and flourishing," said Mariah Remier, Executive Director for Oklahoma Cattlemen's Foundation. “The Oklahoma Cattlemen's Foundation strives to provide students with the resources it has to help them succeed anyway possible. I hope our members and those throughout the agricultural industry will share our scholarship opportunities, continue to preserve past traditions and educate future generations. Post Graduate Opportunity
The Richard Gebhart Legacy Post Graduate Annual Scholarship provides $2,500 to a student who has already received a 4-year degree and in is enrolled in and/or pursuing a post-graduate degree (Master’s, PhD, Law Degree, Etc.).
The Gebhart Legacy Scholarship Fund is administrated through the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Foundation. Applicants must be able to show experience and involvement in cattle industry leadership activities and must be members in good standing of the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association or their state cattlemen’s association.
“Scholarships for high school seniors and undergrad students are common. Scholarships for those pursuing a post graduate degree are not as common, but still vitally important,” Pruitt said. “Richard Gebhart was a unique individual who earned several degrees in his lifetime. The Gebhart family has chosen to honor their loved one by providing a scholarship as unique as Richard Gebhart’s legacy.”
Richard Gebhart is a past president of the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association and served in several other capacities within the beef industry on a local, state and national level.

Internship
The A Bar Ranch, AQHA Ranching Heritage, and the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Foundation have been working together for several years to provide a once-in-a-lifetime, summer internship experience.
The internship targets agriculture students with interest in production cow/calf or working ranch horses with the ability to excel in performance challenges. The intern(s) selected will travel to Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Foundation and American Quarter Horse Association events throughout the summer, while basing out of Pryor, Oklahoma at the A Bar Ranch headquarters.
“By partnering with the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Foundation, we are able to pass what we have learned through many years of experience on to the next generation,” said Mike Armitage.
The work, the travel, the networking are all highlights mentioned by previous interns. However, living at the A Bar Ranch and learning from lifelong benefactors and salt of the earth legends like Mike and Martha Armitage tops the list.
According to Jenna Schmidt, former intern, “The A Bar internship is a great, real-world opportunity to bridge the gap between the cattle and equine industries. The Armitage family are some of the most down to earth people who want to provide an opportunity to lean and succeed in whatever future goals you have. This internship, in collaboration with AQHA and OCF, allows for incredible networking and the chance to grow in an industry you’re passionate about.”
“We enjoy working with the Armitage family annually to provide this internship opportunity that far surpasses expectations,” said Mariah Reimer, OCF Executive Director. “The A Bar Ranch legacy is remarkable and the fact that they want to share their knowledge and years of experience with young people speaks volumes.”
Upon completion of the summer internship, interns are awarded college credit and a $2,000 scholarship.
